MEADOWS WEDNESDAY TRAINERS MEALS FROM 1 JULY 2024

The MGRA would like to thank every registered participant who has supported our free trainer’s meal initiative since its inception in October 2023 – we are proud to have provided 1,556 free meals during that period.

Starting from July 1, The MGRA will be offering $10 plated meals to the registered participants responsible for handling at our Wednesday nightmeetings over the coming months.

These vouchers will be available at reception on race night and must be redeemed on the night. Terms and Conditions apply.

Race Nominations for Wednesday night close each Monday at 1pm with GRV.

2024 GCA NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Murray Bridge will host the 2024 GCA National Straight Track Championship over 350m on Saturday 24th August - 1st Place $28,000. The top two greyhounds from the Victorian Straight Track Championship will progress to the Nationals Final.

Final on Sunday 11th August 2024 at Healesville
1st Place for Final is $10,000
Nominations close Thursday 1st August at 10:00am.
Greyhounds must have been domiciled at a Victorian kennel address for 76 days or more between 4th March and 1st August 2024 to be eligible for the Victorian Series.

2024 GCA NATIONAL SPRINT AND DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Angle Park will host the 2024 GCA National Sprint and Distance Championship Finals on Saturday 24th August - 1st Place $85,000. The winner of the Victorian Sprint and Distance Finals will progress to the Nationals Final. The highest ranked greyhound according to the GCA Nationals rankings who competed in its respective state final, but did not qualify will also progress.

1st Place for Final is $12,000.

CHANGES TO TRAVEL AND STARTERS FEES - JULY 1

Following a consultation process with various stakeholders and industry groups, a decision has been made to change the Travel and Starters fees payment structure. 

From July 1, 2024, the new model implemented will see a $50 travel fee per trainer and $50 starter fee per dog for each race meeting paid. Currently, the structure is $110 travel free per trainer and $20 per starter at each meeting.

The consultation process produced 550 responses, with around two thirds of responses in favour of this proposal. 

The alternative proposal which has not been adopted was to dispense with the travel fee and pay a flat $75 per starter.

A common theme in the comments was participants wanting GRV to address the issue of multiple trainers from the same training establishment receiving more than one travel fee at a race meeting. GRV recognises this is an issue and is working on a system the will allow us to consider that in the future. 

As of July 1, a single trainer who takes two dogs to a race meeting will still receive a total of $150, while they'll be better off under the new system when they take three or more greyhounds to the races.

BENDIGO GRA TRIAL UPDATE

Please note that due to the racing schedule BGRA will not be conducting arm trials Saturday June 29^th. Pen Trials will still be available on Friday June 28 and Sunday June 30 after the last.

GEELONG INSIDE TRACK HARROW.

Geelong GRC would like to advise participants that they will, weather permitting, DEEP HARROW and Top Dress the track on Thursday 27th June 2024.
The DEEP Harrow will be at a depth of 61mm+

TRARALGON RACING & TRIALING UPDATE

Traralgon is set to reopen for trials on Friday 28 June following extensive investigation and maintenance works on its Safe Chase Lure system. 

Recent issues encountered at Traralgon were identified after data was analysed from recent race meetings as well as a testing session completed on Monday 24th June. Maintenance to the lure system was also undertaken during this period.  

The club also has a planned trial session for Tuesday 2 July, with racing expected to resume on Friday 5 July.

Please note changes to the racing calendar for the meetings that were scheduled at Traralgon.
Friday 28th June - No replacement meeting.
Monday 1st July - Replacement meeting at Healesville (DAY) has been added to the calendar. Please note as a result, the Shepparton meeting is now a TWILIGHT meeting.

HORSHAM - 25TH JUNE - RACE 7 - REDRAW

GRV are investigating the issue and will provide an update in due course.

TRARALGON 21ST JUNE & UPCOMING MEETINGS

Please be advised that the Traralgon meeting on Friday 21st June was abandoned due to lure issues.

As a result the Glenview cup & Floodfawn Classic will be abandoned and prizemoney split between eligible runners. As a heat had not been conducted for the GRV VICBRED Series, the series has been abandoned entirely.

Please be advised that the race meeting at Traralgon on Monday 24th June has also been cancelled whilst the issue is investigated. Prizemoney will be split between eligible runners at the time of the abandonment.  

The meeting at Traralgon scheduled for Wednesday 26th June has been cancelled and a replacement meeting added at Sale. Nominations will close at 11am on Monday 24th June.
